Bringing Your Best Face Forth in 2015

I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve had business owners ask me how they can use social media to make their business thrive. It’s almost gut wrenching to have to give an answer to that.

The reason is that every business is different and some tips just might not be what their business needs. For me to give tips that will actually help, I’d have to do an analysis of their business – the industry it’s in, where the business stands in regards to performance, the competition, the demographics and psychographics of the target market, and so much more. The reason lies in the following paragraph.

What Social Media Has Done To Business

Social media has removed the buffer area which served as a filter for communication between a business and it’s customers. In big business especially, it was unheard of to actually get your message through to a company. Today, all one must simply do is rant on the company’s social media channel and “BOOM!”, you get a reply. If you don’t believe me, see Play-Doh’s latest stroke of genius).

We as a people have changed in all aspects of how we live life.

Text books on consumer behavior written just within 6 or 8 years can be tossed out the window. We have grown into consumers who want to get to know a business – it’s company culture, how the product is made, if the product is killing baby seals, and most importantly the people behind the business. You can satisfy today’s consumer by doing the things in the paragraphs below.

What You Need To Do Now

Be social. Not the kind of social that hides behind your business’s social media channels. I mean actually let people know about you, the owner. Tell your story. How did you get into your business? Was your inspiration a family trade secret that you took to new heights (like Willie Robertson of Duck Commander)? Do this from your personal social media channels and also share content from your business’s social media channels to your personal accounts. This transparency is seen in good light by the people who connect with you.

One tool to use for monitoring your social influence online is Klout. This free tool makes it easy to see how the content that you post online performs. If people find value in what you post, they will respond with likes, comments, shares, and mentions. Klout tracks all of that, and gives you an easy to understand score.

Be a leader. Give value to those who surround you, and to those who have yet to know you exist. You do this by being involved in your community and being passionate about what is important to you.

Find Ways To Tie Your Passions To Business

At Maximize, we’ve started an effort to provide value to businesses who are interested in learning about marketing and how to leverage the internet. We are passionate about marketing and helping people, therefore, we will be sharing tons of marketing knowledge from here on out.

The company culture at Maximize is closely tied to the passions of our CEO, Chrissanne Long. We know that our individual roles play an important part to the mission of assisting others in finding the value in themselves, which then empowers them to bring more value to others. By bringing value to others you create happy and loyal customers. Our marketing is centered around this principle, and it pays us back when our clients speak highly of our work to other business owners.

This is a neat story about President Kennedy’s visit to the NASA space center in 1962:

During a visit to the NASA space center in 1962, President Kennedy noticed a janitor carrying a broom.  He interrupted his tour, walked over to the man and said, “Hi, I’m Jack Kennedy. What are you doing?”

The janitor responded, “I’m helping put a man on the moon, Mr. President.”

The janitor had a clear understanding of his value in the puzzle that was putting a man on the moon. He knew that the value he provided was keeping a clean and organized environment for the people crunching numbers, training, and testing rocket fuel. This allowed NASA to put a man on the moon, and consequently benefit the rest of humanity with new space knowledge.

When you achieve passion in business, talk about it. Be transparent online. Let people in on what your business is all about, and they will love you for it (that’s if you’ve got a positive passion behind your business). This is showing your best face forth in 2015.
